The National Historic Trail (NHT) marker traces the course of a Congressionally designated historic route — the Oregon, Santa Fe, Nez Perce (Nee-Me-Poo), Lewis & Clark, and others. Because these trails follow historic corridors rather than a continuous tread, the marker is used as a wayfinding and interpretive device along roads, auto-tour routes, and connecting paths. Each trail has its own administered logo on the Forest Service brown field.
